PacWest Tourney Ends With Illamola In Second, ART U Third

Meri Illamola PacWestPacWest Championship (Day 3)

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. —
Battling in the third and final round of the Pacific West Conference Championship Tournament, Academy of Art women's golf finished with a 44-over-par 908 as an Urban Knight finished in the top group of golfers.

Tied for second by tournament's end, freshman Meri Illamola battled until the final stroke, and came out with a top 10 honor as her 4-over-par 219 was just back of the individual champion. Sophomore Chantel Tsai was next up for the squad, scoring an 11-over-par 227 to tie for 14th place, as junior Nicole Yang was one stroke behind with a 12-over-par 228, good for 16th. Freshman Isabella Christy came in the fourth slot for the team with a 19-over-par 235, with freshman Jannel Calixterio backing her up with a 21-over-par 237.

Cruising towards their third title in four years in the final round after breaking apart from the pack in the second round, Biola ended up with the team win as Karis Haltom of BU took the individual title, just ahead of three other golfers by a stroke, a trio that included Illamola.

Next up, ART U will be keeping their eyes on the NCAA Regional committee to determine if they'll receive a postseason bid.
