PacWest Weekly Awards (Apr. 8)

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Tallying her ninth straight singles and 10th total doubles win on the year this past week against Dominican, sophomore Amelija Supulniece was named Pacific West Conference Player of the Week. The award is for matches played from Mar. 31 - Apr. 6.

Before the Urban Knights concluded competing for the doubles point on Apr. 6, Supulniece once again took down the Penguins' Court 1 pairing, this time containing the duo of Audrey Rafols and Sofia Acuna. Joined by sophomore Estelle Najean, Supulniece and her teammate defeated Dominican in the top doubles court with a 6-4 score.

Over on the singles courts thereafter, No. 20 Supulniece was the first winner to finish other than a walkover, taking No. 19 Rafols down for the second time on the day with a 6-2, 6-0 score. The top singles national rankings in the Pacific West Conference, Supulniece showed nothing but dominance with the impressive final score. 

The two 6-2 results or better in singles for Supulniece are the 17th and 18th occasions she's done so in 2024-25.

This is the first PacWest weekly honor for Academy of Art this season.
