Breann Robinson began as Academy of Art volleyball head coach in February 2022 after serving as the program's assistant coach in August 2021.
Robinson's first year at the program's helm was highlighted by multiple victories in Hawaii, program milestones like Isaura Santos' single-match digs record (39 versus CUI on
Sept. 10), wins on both sides of the season series with Dominican, a
3-0 sweep of Biola late in the year, and ultimately a new ART U single-season record in service aces per set (1.67). The squad was led by a pair of
All-PacWest Second Team honorees in Amalie Rupertova and Maya McClellan who both ranked inside the Pacific West Conference's top seven in kills per set. Along with Jillian Wheaton ranking third in the conference in hitting percentage (.320) while closing her five-year career as Academy of Art's career hitting percentage leader (.325) and a
CSC Academic All-District selection, four Urban Knights were
Academic All-PacWest Team as well.
In her debut season as an assistant coach with the program, Robinson helped guide the Urban Knights through their first full slate of matches since 2019. Highlights from the campaign included two victories to start, a three-part win streak bridging October and November that included a triumph at UH Hilo on
Nov. 4, and the program's single-season records in both kills (12.81) and assists per set (12.03). Academy of Art also garnered numerous postseason honors with outside hitter Ashley Mecham earning
Pacific West Conference Freshman of the Year and
All-PacWest Second Team along with setter Picabo Reinhold and libero Elena Torres.
Most recently with Omni Volleyball Club in Sacramento, Robinson was teaching volleyball fundamentals, game strategy, and practices since joining the staff in 2020. Additionally, she fulfilled her responsibilities as a recruiting coordinator, helping players receive exposure to college coaches. Prior to Omni, she began her current coaching stint for Rage Westside Volleyball Club in 2018.
Serving on staff with her alma mater, San Jose State, Robinson could be found on the sidelines as a graduate assistant during the Spartans’ 2018 campaign. The team went 16-11 overall that year, winning 10 of its final 12 matches and placing three student-athletes on the Mountain West Conference Team.
Prior to her time as a graduate assistant, Robinson handled marketing, coordination, and coaching in her role as SJSU volleyball camp director and lead coach. She worked with campers ranging from the ages of three to 18, managing all logistics while helping showcase student-athletes for recruitment. Alongside her work at San Jose State, Robinson coached with SandLegs Beach Volleyball Club for multiple seasons.
En route to earning her bachelor’s degree in Communications Studies in 2018, Robinson enjoyed a memorable career playing indoor and outdoor volleyball at San Jose State. A multi-year team captain, she closed her career as the team’s primary setter in 2017, collecting 1,105 assists in 29 matches and finishing ranked fifth in program history with 2,656 career assists.
Robinson secured First Team All-Mountain West honors in 2017, a silver medal as a member of the Mountain West All-Star Team at the Global Challenge Tournament in Croatia, and was recognized for her academic success as a Mountain West Scholar-Athlete in addition to being selected as Academic All-Conference. Following her graduation, Robinson finished a master’s degree in Sport Management from SJSU as well.
