Track & Field Continues to Impress

La Jolla, CA---
The Academy of Art University men's and women's track & field team traveled to San Diego, CA to compete in the UCSD Triton Invitational this past weekend against a field of over 80 schools, countries, and elite athletes. For a first year program AAU continues to make great strides and continues to impress their competition.

Shawn Daut (Pleasanton, CA) and Joey Villasenor (Olivehurst, CA) had a great showing for the men.  With Daut finishing 6th in the 1500 meter run in his section and 20th overall with a time of 4:04.17. Villasenor finished 3rd in his heat in the 800 meter run, a time of 1:58.24 was good enough to give him a 27th place finish overall. While Geoffrey Cheruiyot took first in his heat but the 1:59.13 time was only good enough for a 29th place finish overall.

Briana Stewart (Oakland, CA) has found her niche in the 100 meter dash as she continues to blow away the competition. Stewart took first in her heat with an impressive 12.87 time. Overall she finished 10th but was less than 1 second behind the first place runner.

AAU has just two more meets before concluding their inaugural season. They head over the bridge to Oakland, California to compete in the Mills College Track Meet on May 2, and then wrap up their season on Friday, May 8 at the Sac State Open.
