YACOUBA CLEARED FOR TAKEOFF (LJ, TJ)
Pushing his streak to eight consecutive indoor and outdoor National Championships appearances since his collegiate career began in 2022,
Yacouba Gnacko will have an opportunity to reach double-digit All-American honors this week. The Industrial Design major, a nine-time All-American thus far, has saved his best horizontal jumps for the final two meets of the regular season, placing second in the long jump at the Pacific West Conference Championships with his best mark of 24-7.75 (7.51m) coming on
Apr. 25. Though back of the personal record of 24-10 (7.57m) held by the Paris, France native that ranks fourth in program history, his distance entered him into a four-way tie for ninth in the country this year.
After adding his fourth PacWest title in the triple jump on
Apr. 26, Gnacko began the Franson Last Chance by launching to a season-best 52-1.75 (15.89m) on
May 10. That effort rocketed him up to first in the country by half an inch, keeping him over the NCAA DII Outdoor Nationals provisional standard in all five meets to date in 2025. Gnacko's personal record of 52-3.25 (15.93m) came two years ago and is second only to the ART U record of 53-1.5 (16.19m) that made
Mathieu Tshani a National Champion in 2022.
LINA EVERLASTING (800m)
After breaking the program's indoor 800m record for a fifth time in her career and ultimately running the fourth-fastest time in NCAA DII history this past March,
Lina Hanich has carried that momentum into her outdoor campaign. The Advertising major first achieved a new 800m all-time best with her 2:05.23 on
Mar. 21 in the Hornet Invitational less than one week after becoming a six-time All-American at
Indoor Nationals. It was then on
Apr. 5 when Hanich delivered the seventh-quickest 800m by a NCAA DII student-athlete, going 2:03.60 to eventually rank third in the country this season.
BLACK ON THE ATTACK (400mH)
A nearly full year out of collegiate action did not phase
Robin Black who, following his trip to Indoor Nationals in 2024, approached his first hurdle of the 2025 season in February. The Music Production & Sound Design for Visual Media major and three-time All-American proceeded to better the Outdoor Nationals 400m hurdles and has done so a total of seven times this year, culminating with his 50.90 on
May 9 at the Titan Tune-Up. Fifth in the nation as a result, Black seeks to improve upon his third-place finish from 2023 particularly given that he would go on to
further the ART U record to 49.02 two months thereafter in his home country of Jamaica. In addition to his individual event, Black is slated to run on the Urban Knights' 4x400m relay.
MIGHTY MARLIN (400mH)
Three meets was all
Josh Marlin needed to qualify for Outdoor Nationals. Despite competing in the 400m hurdles just three times since Indoor Nationals, the Communications & Media Technologies major has made his opportunities count, placing first overall twice out of the trio to secure his first PacWest Championship in the event on
Apr. 26. That performance at 51.29 across the finish line kept Marlin among the nation's top 14 by the end of the regular season, but the three-time All-American who finished fifth at Outdoor Nationals last year has shown he can go as low as 50.68 which holds as third-fastest in ART U history in the event. In addition to his individual event, Marlin is slated to run on the Urban Knights' 4x400m relay.
BOUIE UP (400m)
Making an immediate impact after joining Academy of Art earlier this year,
Tre'Sean Bouie has gone under the 47-second 400m dash barrier three times to date in 2025. The Motion Pictures & Television major was an All-American with the Urban Knights' indoor 4x400m relay in March then worked his way down to a 46.84 in the 400m at the Stanford Invitational on
Apr. 5. In contention for the PacWest crown in the event later that month, the Philadelphia native posted a season-best 46.80 in the PacWest Championships prelims on
Apr. 25. Fourth in program history at exactly one second off
Duncan Agyemang's program record (45.80), Bouie finds himself 23rd in the country as a qualifier for Outdoor Nationals. In addition to his individual event, Bouie is slated to run on the Urban Knights' 4x400m relay.
GATHER, INCE, REPEAT (100m)
One of just 11 Urban Knights in program history with eight or more All-American honors to his name,
Ajani Ince will look to repeat his success as a qualifier to last year's 100m dash final here in 2025. The Architecture major worked his time down to consistently in the 10.50 range until a 10.41 at the PacWest Championships prelim on
Apr. 25 helped him toward a runner-up finish. Ince went on to drop well further, however, going 10.38 then 10.23 as he progressed through the event prelims and final at the Franson Last Chance on
May 9. Tied for 15th in the country with fellow PacWest rival Shemar Palmer of Fresno Pacific, Ince's personal record of 10.16 at 2024 Outdoor Nationals remains third in program history behind only Black and Hall of Famer
Mobolade Ajomale.
FINAL FOUR (Men's 4x400m)
After various combinations of Urban Knights produced three Outdoor Nationals provisional marks, it was the quartet of Bouie, Black,
Tariq Dacres, and Marlin who closed out the year with not only the fourth-best time in NCAA DII this season, but also the second-fastest performance in program history. At the Franson Last Chance on
May 10, ART U collectively delivered a 3:07.19 effort to mark the quickest time since the Academy of Art record of 3:05.20 was set in 2023.
