Turlock, CA--- The Academy of Art University track and field team started its 2010 season this past weekend with a trip to Turlock,CA where they participated in the CSU Stanislaus Open.
The Urban Knights had three second place finishes and 15 top ten individual performances.
Top returner
Briana Stewart nabbed one of the three top five finishes, placing second in the women's 100m with a time of 12.71. Sophomore
Kristen Lee had a steller debut performance for the Urban knights as well, she placed third in the women's 100m just .04 seconds behind her teammate.
Lee also grabbed her second top five finish in the women's 200m race, as she placed second with a time of 26.06.
First time fielder,
Hannah Otey lead the way for the Urban Knights on the field placing fifth in Shotput, she threw 10.03 meters.
On the men's side,
Geoffrey Cheruiyot nabbed the third second place finish, his 2.00.03 800m time was good enough to beat out 26 other runners for the spot. Teammate
Kennedy Kurgat was right behind him with a time of 2.01.63.
Junior transfer
Aric Armon placed fifth and seventh in the men's 400m and 200m run respectively.
The Urban Knight coaches had much to be pleased about after first meet. They are excited and look to continue building on this performance for the future, "we saw some promising performances for our first meet and a lot of desire to improve for next week", said assistant coach Anne Ricketts.
The Urban Knights head back to Turlock, CA to compete in the Kim Duyst Invitational hosted by CSU Stanislaus on March 6.
