Berkeley, CA--- On Saturday at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational hosted by UC Berkeley, Academy of Art had two runners achieve lifetime bests in their respective events. Freshman sprinter
Emily Allis and sophomore distance runner
Kennedy Kurgat each improved on their previous best times.
Allis, a San Luis Obispo native, improved her time in the 400m hurdles a second. She finished the race in 1:05.94 giving the freshman a 15th place finish against some of the top runners in Division I.
Allis also competed in the 100m hurdles, she finished 21st with a time of 15.23 just missing her personal best by .05 second.
On the men's side
Kurgat bested his previous time by two seconds to finish eighth at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational with a time of 1:52.78. The sophomore beat out runners from Fresno State, Santa Clara and Sacramento State to name a few.
Briana Stewart won her heat, and had the 3rd best time overall, in the 100m hurdles on Saturday in 13.65. But, due to a strained hamstring in the race so was unable to compete in the rest of her events.
Kristen Lee got a personal best in the 100m dash, she finished 14th with a time of 12.60.
Jazmin White was also apart of the fun, as she improved her 400m time by finishing with a time of 59.86. She also tied her second lowest time in the 200m with a time of 25.90.
While some athletes participated in the Brutus Hamilton Invitational another group of Urban Knights traveled to Pleasant Hill to participate in the Harlan Anderson Memorial hosted by Diablo Valley College.
Erik Piedad finished third in his heat in the 200m dash and 25th overall with a time of 24.12. While teammate
Stephan Jeanpierre placed two slots behind him finishing in 24.30 which placed him fifth in his heat and 27th overall.
Jazmin White placed eighth in her heat and 11th overall in the 100m dash with a time of 14.84.
The Urban Knights 4x100 relay team (
Ezra Tacosa,
Durelle Williams,
Erik Piedad,
Aric Armon) posted their fastest time of 44.23 for a sixth place finish.
Academy of Art is gearing up for one of their biggest meets of the season, the Urban Knights travel back to Stanford University this time to participate in the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational next weekend (May 1-2).
