Nampa, ID--- The Academy of Art men's and women's track & field team traveled to Boise, ID to take part in the Jacksons Invitational hosted by Boise State University. The two-day indoor invitational features athletes from some of the regions top Division I and II programs. The Urban Knights used today to hone their skills in the long jump and the 200m dash, using a majority of ART U athletes in those events.
Setting to the tone for the Urban Knights was
Remigius Roskosch, who enters this year's squad as the leader in the long jump.
"A highlight for me today was watching the crowd's reaction as our guys were warming up," said Head Coach
Charles Ryan. "Most had a confused look on their face, 'like what is the Academy of Art University doing here'," Ryan added.
Roskosch had their answer. The freshman took his place on the line and proceeded to not just beat his competition, but beat them handily. The Darmstadt, Germany native took first in the long jump, besting athletes from Division I programs such as BYU, and host institution Boise State University to name a few. Roskosch finished the meet with a 7.60m jump, 20m ahead of second place. "Remi's jump made people take notice of the Academy of Art," said Ryan.
ART U next took to the track. For the women,
Kristen Lee put in an impressive performance, finishing 12th in the 200m dash against tough Division I competition. On the men's side,
Pearson Crichlow took the top spot for the men, finishing 17th out of 39 runners.
Alexander Craig edged out Utah State to finish 19th in the race.
Head Coach
Charles Ryan is eager to see what the team has in store for tomorrow. "I was very impressed with women today. Each female athlete that ran today achieved a lifetime best," said Ryan.
Tomorrow the Urban Knights return to a full schedule of events. Roskosch will participate in the triple jump and try his hand at the 60m dash, while
Briana Stewart will take part in the 60m dash and hurdles.
