Remigius Roskosch Battles With the Big Boys

Austin, TX---
On one of the nation's premiere stages for track & field, long jumper, Remigius Roskosch was ART U's lone competitor in the 84th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays held at Mike A. Myers Stadium on April 8th.

The sophomore, who has been superb in the pit for the Urban Knights all season, was up against the country's top athletes on Friday afternoon.

“The atmosphere was great today," said Assistant Coach Austin Brobst. "The fans in Texas are always super responsive to track & field."

Housed with athletes from superior Division I programs, Remi used this opportunity to represent the Academy of Art University to the best of his ability, and represent the Academy of Art he did.

'This meet is really like the Super Bowl of track & field meets, besides Nationals, this is track & fields biggest stage," Brobst said.

Over the course of the season Remi had been jumping around 7.40m - 7.50m. Today, feeling the crowd, the Germany native, shattered his previous personal best, finishing the meet with a jump of 7.65m.

"Remi was really feeding off the energy of the crowd today," Brobst said. "It was really a great environment for him to compete in, and once he got into the finals I think he got into the feel of things," said Brobst.

On the sophomore's last attempt of the preliminaries, Roskosch put together a solid jump to earn himself a spot in the finals, with a second place flight finish. In the finals, Roskosch took the lead in the competition, on his second to last jump, and held it throughout the sixth round.

Remi's fate rest in the hands of the very last jumper, who, unfortunately, surpassed him to take the lead. Overall, Remi finished ninth in the long jump. The ninth place finish was good enough to beat out jumpers from the University of Texas, BYU, Houston, Florida State, and Alabama, to name a few. The jump also moves Roskosch into third place in the Division II rankings in the long jump.

"I'm really proud of his efforts today. He executed our plan, which was to go around 7.60m – 7.70m. I fully expect that over the next three meets he should be jumping around 7.70m - 7.80m, hopefully," Brobst closed.

The Urban Knights travel down south next weekend to take part in both the Mt. Sac Relays, and the Long Beach Invitational.
