Team Scoring Final
Seaside, CA -- The Urban Knights finished the final round of the CSUMB Otter Invitational right where they started it after the first day, closing out their season with a solid fourth-place finish in what turned out to be a two-horse race for first place.
Lyra Yoe faltered after a stellar first round, but still finished tied for ninth place overall, and
Andrea Nieto showed the most improvement in the third round, getting her score down four strokes at the Black Horse Golf Course on Tuesday.
PacWest rival Grand Canyon finished in first place with a team score of 919 for all three rounds, with Tiffany Heweston (227), Brittany Penny (228), and Ashley Mooney (229) finishing 2-3-4 in the individual standings. The contest was between the Lopes and host CSU Monterey Bay, who finished three strokes behind GCU at 922 overall. Courtney Soekland took the individual first place honors, shooting 224 (+8), and Audra Kepler also tied for fourth place.
The next cluster of team scores was led Chico State, who came in 37 strokes behind the second place team at 958, with their highest finisher Heather Fegley coming in tied for 14th place. Academy of Art was right behind the Wildcats with a 960, and Cal State San Marcos shot 964 to round out the top five, led by Vanessa Chap, who finished tied for fourth overall.
The Urban Knights were led by Yoe, who slipped to ninth place after finishing the first day tied for first place.
Crystal Superal finished two strokes behind her and was in sole position of 12th place, while Nieto progressed from 87 in the first round to 80 in the second and 76 in the final to finish in 21st place.
Mariana Pazos (257) and
Melissa Genao (262) rounded out the scoring for the Urban Knights.
