ART U Finishes Strong In Twilight Qualifier

2013 Cal State Stanislaus Twilight Qualifier Results

Turlock, CA – On the track and field one last time before the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships later this month, the Urban Knights closed out the regular season with the Twilight Qualifier hosted by Cal State Stanislaus at Al Brenda Track. More program records and even a new stadium record in the 100m hurdles by senior Vashti Thomas were among the highlights.

Finishing her stretch of 100mH in a remarkable 12.74, Thomas dropped the new Al Brenda Track record by more than 20 tenths of a second. The time, which beat out Shermaine Williams' (Johnson C. Smith) previous stadium low of 12.95, earned Thomas 1st place of seven overall.

Senior Jesseka Raymond and junior Dinesha Bean delivered a strong one-two punch in the 100m dash. Raymond placed 1st overall with nearly a new ART U record of 11.80 while Bean was a mere fraction of a second behind her teammate in 2nd place (11.81).

In the women's long jump, freshman Jasmin Guinn ended 2013 with her longest distance of the season (18-5, 5.61m) and captured 1st overall as a result. Raymond followed up with 2nd place and a distance of 17-8.25 (5.40m).

Raymond, who was something of a renaissance woman in this final regular season meet as a competitor in the javelin throw and 800m, also offered a new program record in the high jump (5-2.25, 1.58m).

Freshman Keanna Moody took 1st in the 400m dash, going 55.53 to push in front of Cal State Dominguez Hills' Charlene Brown.

In the 1500m, senior Jenny Bergren claimed 1st of seven with her final mark of 4:34.55.

The Urban Knights were their usual dominant selves in the 4x400m relay as Briana Stewart joined Dominique Berry, Julian Purvis, and Chantel King for a 3:42.89 mark that put them in 1st place by nearly four seconds.

On the men's side, senior Ricco McCloud highlighted the evening by setting a new program record in the 400m hurdles. He captured 1st in the event with a time of 54.19.

In the triple jump, redshirt freshman Johnny Carter placed 4th with a mark of 47-7 (14.50m).

Sophomore Jack Nevins turned in a personal best in the 1500m, going 4:03.28 and taking 3rd overall.

The next and final stop for the Urban Knights is Colorado State - Pueblo's Neta & Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl for the NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field National Championships on May 23-25.
