2014 Dixie State Invitational ResultsSt. George, UT -- The Academy of Art University women's golf team continued a strong fall season this week with two individuals in the top-10 and a fourth-place team showing at the Dixie State Invitational
Monday and
Tuesday at the Sunbrook Golf Course.
Freshman
Shu-lin Lin and sophomore
Crystal Wang both finished tied for ninth after shooting 9-over (155)
on Tuesday. Lin and freshman
Sterling Hawkins shot back-to-back 76s (+3) to sit tied for sixth after
Monday's play.
The Urban Knights were tied for second through the first two rounds Monday with two identical rounds of 308. After holding fourth place for most of the day, ART U climbed up the leaderboard as the teams ahead of them -- Western Washington, Point Loma Nazarene and host Dixie State -- struggled on the back nine.
"The team started off in second place [
Tuesday]. This is exactly where we wanted to be going into the final round," said Academy of Art head coach
Elaine Harris. "However, we were unable to make up the needed shots after a slow start. I look forward to learning from this tournament and bringing our best to Sonoma next week."
Sophomore
Roxanne Matta finished tied for 12th with a 78 and an 80
on Tuesday. Hawkins wound up in 30th after rounds of 76 and 90 on the final day.
Western Washington won the team title with a +26 after four rounds. ART U was the third of five Pacific West Conference teams, defeating Hawaii-Hilo (7th, +88), Hawaii Pacific (9th, +99) and Holy Names (12th, +171).
The Urban Knights wrap up their fall schedule next week at the NCAA West Regional Preview hosted by Sonoma State.
