2015 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Nationals (Day 1)BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Up against the top NCAA Division II talent at Indoor Nationals on Friday, two Urban Knights emerged from the preliminary races with impressive performances.
Jordan Edwards won the men's 400m prelim and set a program record in the 200m while
Keanna Moody was a finalist in the women's 400m. Both will earn All-American honors as they compete for individual titles back inside the Birmingham Crossplex tomorrow.
The USTFCCCA Indoor Track Athlete of the Year was in prime form in the 400m, winning his heat and finishing first of 17 with a 47.25. Edwards would top competitors from St. Augustine's (Omar Johnson) and Johnson C. Smith (Waynee Hyman) who he will see in Saturday's final.
Back for more in the 200m, Edwards ended day one with a new program record. He again finished ahead of Johnson with a time of 21.29, taking the third spot of eight prelims qualifiers.
Moody started strong with a 55.44 in the 400m prelims, placing second in her heat and sixth overall to assure her All-American honors in the event and a spot in the finals. Competing in the 200m less than 30 minutes later, she was unable to finish among the top eight.
Also in action on Friday were
Marlon Britton in the men's 60mH (8.20) and
Mistic Scott in the women's 400m (57.49). While neither qualified through to Saturday's finals, both gained valuable post-season experience and Scott will step onto the track once more in the 4x400m relay before Nationals are complete.
The Urban Knights will be in action tomorrow, Mar. 14, contesting the men's and women's 400m, men's 200m, men's 3000m, and both 4x400m relays.
