2015 CSUMB Women's Otter Invitational Final Results

SEASIDE, Calif. — Another top-three finish against even more tough competition was the result Tuesday for the Academy of Art University women's golf team, as the Urban Knights defeated two top-35 teams and two NCAA Division I teams in the Cal State Monterey Bay Women's Otter Invitational at the Bayonet Black Horse Golf Course.
 
The Urban Knights finished tied for third with host Cal State Monterey Bay after a 318 team score in Tuesday's final round gave them a 627 (+51) for the tournament. They trailed two top-15 ranked teams (golfstat.com) in No. 13 Dallas Baptist (2nd, 617) and team champion No. 3 Nova Southeastern (1st, 607).
 
The Urban Knights beat No. 22 Shorter University (8th, 651) and No. 31 Western Washington (7th, 647). They topped D-I programs Dartmouth University (6th, 645) and Incarnate Word (9th, 662). They also finished ahead of Pacific West Conference teams Point Loma (5th, 641) and Holy Names (12th, 770). It was the team's second straight top-three showing in as many weeks and fourth of the spring.
 
Freshman Sterling Hawkins earned her second straight top-10 finish with a 152 (+8) two-round total, good for seventh place. Hawkins followed her even-par 72 Monday with an eight-over 80 in the second round. Sophomore Crystal Wang gave the Urban Knights two golfers in the top-10 by finishing tied for ninth (77-78—155).
 
Sophomore Roxanne Matta jumped two spots in the standings with a one-stroke improvement to finish tied for 16th (79-78—157). Freshman Shu-lin Lin was ART U's fourth scorer, matching her opening-round 82 to finish tied for 32nd with a 164 (+20) total. Freshman Maria Fernanda also competed for the Knights, tying for 51st with a 28-over 172 total.
 
The Urban Knights next take a week off before competing on April 6-7 in the Sonoma State Invitational at Foxtail Golf Course in Rohnert Park, Calif.
