2016 Johnny Mathis Invitational ResultsThe indoor and outdoor seasons crossed over for Academy of Art University track & field on Saturday with the squad being split for the Seattle Pacific Final Qualifier back at University of Washington's Dempsey Indoor and the first outdoor meet of 2016 – SF State's Johnny Mathis Invitational at Cox Stadium.
SEATTLE – Highlighting the Urban Knights' third weekend in Seattle,
Valentin Pepiot finished second in the men's 3000m run at the SPU Final Qualifier. He posted a time of 8:14.72 which puts him over 10 seconds under the NCAA Nationals provisional qualifying standard and 20th in the country.
SAN FRANCISCO – Craig Mattox stood out in a Johnny Mathis Invitational meet that featured 18 different teams. Already a provisional qualifier for the indoor long jump, the Paradise Valley Community College transfer delivered a 23-10 (7.26m) in his very first attempt to duplicate his Nationals provisional qualification in the outdoor season. The distance already puts him third in program history and won him the event at the meet which included nine others.
In the men's high jump,
Johnnie Young set a new program record with a 5-10 (1.78).
The women's 800m saw
Kaelyn Harbison finished second of 32 with a 2:17.72 mark. She was also close to her personal record with her 4:42.89 time in the 1500m.
Academy of Art concludes its indoor regular season on Sunday, Feb. 28 with a contingent at the Boston University Last Chance Meet. From there, the next stop will be the Stanislaus Kim Duyst Invitational (Mar. 5) for some and NCAA Indoor Nationals (Mar. 11-12) for others.
