2016 Pepsi Florida Relays Results (Day 2)
2016 SF State Distance Carnival (Day 1)On both coasts for action Friday, Academy of Art University track & field set multiple records and earned NCAA Nationals provisional marks at both the Pepsi Florida Relays and the SF State Distance Carnival.
GAINSVILLE, Fla. – The Pepsi Florida Relays featured the outdoor debut of
Mobolade Ajomale and he did not disappoint coming off his National Championship in the indoor 60m dash. Competing inside the James G. Pressly Stadium on the campus of the University of Florida, Ajomale started the day by going 10.525 in the 100m dash. He would place 33rd overall, is now third in program history, and became a NCAA Nationals provisional qualifier.
Ajomale later dropped a new program record in the 200m dash, going 20.88 to best
Jordan Edwards' 20.89 from two years ago. The mark was just 0.18 off the automatic qualifying time, but would be a provisional nonetheless and moved the redshirt freshman to the top of NCAA Division II.
Among the other highlights in Florida was
Roman Skovronski improving his time in the 400m hurdles en route to another new school record and a better NCAA provisional. He turned in a 52.51 to surpass
Quinlan Wright for the fastest in program history.
SAN FRANCISCO – The first day of the SF State Distance Carnival saw a host of personal bests including
McKaela Christenson and
Chris Costa in their respective 10,000m races. Christenson went 37:57.47 and Costa finished 32:56.27 as both further dropped the program records.
Valentin Pepiot placed fourth of 101 competitors in the 1500m. He posted a time of 3:50.08 and remains No. 1 in the country in the event. Additionally, he posted a new career-best of 14:23.73 in the 5000m, taking 11th of 202 runners for 10th in NCAA DII.
The 800m saw new PRs from
Ashley Brown (2:18.77) and
Joshua Browne (1:52.35) as both rose to among the top four in ART U history.
Kaelyn Harbison also finished in the upper tier with a 2:17.46 and later dropped a new personal best of 18:11.84 in the 5000m.
From the jumps squad,
Rian Young-Werner managed to hit the NCAA
Nationals provisional cutoff with a 38-6.75 (11.75m) triple jump in San Francisco. She assumes the place of third in program history. The men's long jump saw Thomas Benson achieve a personal record of 20-8 (6.20m).Academy of Art will back for a second day of action at both the Pepsi Florida Relays and the SF State Distance Carnival tomorrow.
