2016 East Bay Invitational Results
Competing in three different locations for the Mt. SAC Relays, Bryan Clay Invitational, and East Bay Invitational, Academy of Art University track & field turned in a series of impressive marks including multiple new program records.
NORWALK, Calif. – Some of the day's best performances not so surprisingly came at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays, held this year at Cerritos College.
Friday began in historic fashion with a new program record coming from
Marlon Britton,
Mobolade Ajomale,
Alexander McNally, and
Craig Mattox in the men's 4x100m. Pushing themselves to 40.37, the Knights quartet finished first of 14 teams and rose to fifth in NCAA Division II with the Nationals provisional qualifying mark.
Ajomale returned for two more eye-popping performances in the 100m and 200m dashes. He would take eighth of 57 in the 100m, putting up a time of 10.33 (specifically 10.327) that put him not only second in program history, but also second in NCAA DII this year. He would later match the NCAA DII #1 200m mark of 20.88 that he originally set at the Pepsi Florida Relays. It was 12th of 53 at Mt. SAC.
In the men's 400m hurdles,
Roman Skovronski continued to drop his time and improve the program record he set in the event at the Pepsi Florida Relays as well. Friday saw the senior go 52.49 to put him into a tie for fifth in the country.
Johnny Carter made his 2016 outdoor jumps debut a memorable one, offering a NCAA provisional mark of 48-04.50 (14.74m) in the triple jump. He begins the year among the country's top 25.
On the women's side,
Keanna Moody posted a season-best 54.60 in the 400m dash early in the day. She would later run her fastest 200m dash to date, going 24.56 to move up to fourth in program history and earn a NCAA provisional mark.
On Thursday,
McKaela Christenson was the lone Urban Knights in action in the women's 10,000m.
AZUSA, Calif. – On day two of the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific, Academy of Art had breakout efforts in the women's 800m and both genders in the triple jump.
Much like she did one year ago in this same meet,
Kaelyn Harbison ran the best 800m race of her collegiate career, further dropping her time as the ART U record-holder to 2:13.67. She would finish 38th of 118 total competitors.
Ashley Brown also turned in a season-best of 2:16.85.
In the triple jump,
Rian Young-Werner moved into the country's top 10 with a season-best 39-6 (12.04m) while
Johnnie Young delivered his own season-best 47-7.75 (14.52m), bettering his previous top mark by over five inches. Steadily improving in the long jump this year,
Khayla Doublin went for a season-best 16-2.5 (4.94m).
On Thursday, the women's 5,000m featured
Emily McCarty's fifth-place finish in her 25-competitor heat.
HAYWARD, Calif. – ART U sent just a few members of its distance team across the bay for day one of the East Bay Invitational. The highlight came in the men's 10,000m where
Brett Bermudez went 33:29.53 to finish second in his collegiate debut in the event.
Two Southern California meets close out the Urban Knights' three days of action tomorrow. It will be the third and final day of the Mt. SAC Relays back in Norwalk and Long Beach State's Beach Invitational to be hosted at the 49ers' Jack Rose Track.
