AURORA, Colo. – On the final day of the NCAA Division II National Championship at the CommonGround Golf Course, sophomore
Sterling Hawkins ended her run as the program's second individual qualifier for Nationals tied for 44th overall and the highest finisher from the Pacific West Conference.

"Nationals was a lot of fun and really shows you where the level of competition is right now," said Hawkins. "I felt like it was an endurance run with a huge mental side as well. Overall, I learned a lot for tournaments coming up this fall and next spring."
Under hot and slightly windy conditions, Hawkins opened her round with a pair of pars, bogeyed Hole 3, but came right back even with a birdie on Hole 4. The San Jose native would go on to shoot an 84 on the day, completing the four-day tournament with a total of 306 (72-76-74-84) and ninth among the 12 individuals (independents from the 12 teams) in the competition.
"This was the best tournament that Sterling played all year," said head coach Elaine Harris. "All the work she put in really paid off when it mattered. She was really stepping up and playing well."
At the conclusion of four rounds of play, Gabrielle Shipley of Grand Valley State was the tournament's individual winner and Rollins College earned the team title with four individuals among the top 20.

2015, this marks the second consecutive year that an Urban Knight finished among the top 10 individual golfers at Nationals.
"Having Crystal go to Nationals last year and now Sterling this season, I think it's really important that individuals are showing their teammates they can do it," said Harris. "It was an awesome experience for her and she really stuck with it despite a hard round today. Having Sterling's presence here means a lot for the team and will prepare everyone to get better."
