SAN FRANCISCO – After a year of anticipation, the 2016 Academy of Art men's soccer season has finally arrived. 2015 featured a team that withstood many challenges including three out of their first four matches being decided in overtime for the first time in program history. 2016 will feature a program that has continued to progress throughout it's now nine-year history. Head coach Mike Keller has been a fixture during that time as he enters his fourth season with team. During his tenure, the Urban Knights have posted a solid 24-25-5 record. Joining him for his first full time assignment with ART U is Kurt Devlin. Devlin played a role during both the 2010 and 2015 seasons, but was promoted to full-time assistant coach when previous coach Dave Frank was given the head position at Holy Names. Keller also brought on two other assistants to help lead the team this year: Benkay Kajihara and Jose Mendoza.
 
The Urban Knights' first kickoff comes on Friday, September 2 against cross-bay CCAA opponent, Cal State East Bay. The Pioneers concluded 2015 with a 5-12 overall record. The following weekend, ART U will host the Golden Gate Classic, its second annual tournament. For the full schedule release, click here.
 
Holding the torch on the field will be three seniors: Jake Walter, Mathayo Huma, and Ricardo "Ricky" Mendoza. Mendoza is the longest tenured Urban Knight as this is his fourth season with the team and Walter is in his third year after transferring from Johnson Community College in Overland Park, Kan. Huma is one of the new faces on the team this season, but will call upon his experiences to help lead the squad. Joining the seniors is a large freshman class which consists of six individuals: Jakob Primbas, Piper Hubbell, Isiah Quiros, Philippe Zamignani, Andrew Deans, and Gabe Estrada.
