Ajomale's 60m, Men's LJ Emerge In Hillsdale

2017 Hillsdale Wide Track Classic (Day 1)

HILLSDALE, Mich. – Making their program debut in the Hillsdale "Wide Track" Classic, Academy of Art University track & field posted its share of highlights on Friday inside the Margot V. Biermann Center. Mobolade Ajomale, who earned a bronze medal with Canada in this past summer's Olympic Games, made his first 2017 collegiate appearance and proceeded to post two NCAA provisional marks including a 60m dash that was fractions of a second off the auto qualifier. Michane Ricketts and Craig Mattox continued to dominate in the long jump, upping their respective NCAA provisionals as well.

Not missing a beat since his impressive freshman season and an exciting offseason, Ajomale immediately made his sophomore campaign one to watch with provisionals in the 60m and 200m. The 60m saw him go 6.74 (0.02 off the auto qualifier) good for first of 48 on Friday. Coming into this weekend, the time would be second in all of NCAA Division II. Additionally in the 200m, Ajomale claimed first of 11 with a 21.77 mark good for another provisional.

The men's long jump saw the one-two punch of Ricketts and Mattox both improve upon their season-bests. Ricketts took second of 32 jumpers with a distance of 24-8.5 (7.53m) that was 0.07 off the auto qualifier and Mattox rose with a 24-2.5 (7.38m) on his final attempt.

Continuing his impressive senior season in the 60m hurdles, Quinlan Wright dropped a new season-best, going 8.29 for fifth of 24 hurdlers.

On the women's side, Jasmine Grace finished 15th of 70 in the 60m, turning in a time of 7.85. The 200m featured both Schae Graham (25.94) and Mistic Scott (25.96) among the top 10 in an 80-runner event.

Marion Presigny was in action in both the 60m hurdles and the long jump on Friday. She took sixth of 36 in the former (0.01 shy of a NCAA provisional mark) and 18-2.5 (5.55m) for second of 42 in the long jump.

In the women's pentathlon, Folke Woch earned first of 11 with a total of 3489 to improve upon her season-best set last weekend. She was fifth in the 60m hurdles (9.33), fourth in the high jump (5-1.25, 1.56m), second in both the shot put (37-8.5, 11.49m - new ART U record) and long jump (17-2, 5.23m), and finally won the 800m (2:28.80).

The second and final day of the Hillsdale "Wide-Track" Classic begins Saturday with the field events at 10 a.m. ET (7 a.m. PT).
