2017 The Cardinal Classic Results (Complete)
STANFORD, Calif. – Closing The Cardinal Classic on Stanford campus Saturday, Academy of Art University track & field hung right with NCAA Division I talent in a variety of events.
Despite not competing in the triple jump since the 2016 indoor season,
Craig Mattox showed off his impressive leaping ability, soaring to a new personal best since joining the Urban Knights. He surpassed jumpers from New Mexico, Minnesota, and Utah State with a distance of 46-11.75 (14.32m).
In the women's shot put,
Folke Woch threw a new season-best 37-6 (11.43m), bringing her to just one inch from Jesseka Raymond's spot at second on the all-time list.
Since shifting to the 100m hurdle distance for the outdoor season,
Hannah Hensley had only competed once during the California Invitational. On Saturday, she had her second opportunity and dropped close to a full second off her first time, going 14.61 at Stanford.
Woch would later join Hensley,
Schae Graham, and
Beatriz Martinez Mercado for a NCAA provisional in the 4x400m relay. The quartet offered a 3:46.77 to put themselves 21st in the country in the event.
Not quite at her 400m personal record that she set recently this season,
Mistic Scott still bettered several DI sprinters with a 55.36 in the event.
Kris Everett continued to make his way back in the 1500m, going 3:57.66 to match his season-best and top several runners from Northern Arizona as well as Florida State and San Francisco. In another section of the 1500m,
Pierre Fontanarosa split two Stanford runners with a time of 3:52.79.
Academy of Art now turns its attention to the PacWest Conference Championships which will happen over two days (Apr. 28-29) in San Diego with Point Loma serving as the host.
