2017 St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartan Invitational Results
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Academy of Art University track & field's 2018 debut saw impressive marks at the 200m distance throughout Friday at the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartan Invitational inside the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. Both the men's and women's teams set program records in the 4x200m before
Mobolade Ajomale and
Schae Graham both won their respective individual races.
The ART U women's 4x200m, which featured Graham,
Rian Young-Werner,
Jameela Muhammad, and
Jasmine Grace, took first of the 15 teams in the competition with a time of 1:41.63. It was the first opportunity for the Urban Knights to contest the event in the history of the program.
On the men's side,
Michane Ricketts, Ajomale,
Kaze Poitier, and
Christian Carter combined for a 1:28.60 in the 4x200m, earning them the top spot out of 10 teams.
In his first 200m of the season, Ajomale quickly ascended to second in NCAA Division II in the event with a 21.51. The time was a Nationals provisional and placed him first of over 70 competitors in the multi-divisional competition.
Graham returned for the 200m where she also led a group of more than 70 sprinters from both Division I and II with a 25.24 mark.
The triple jump saw Young-Werner make more than a foot improvement on her debut mark from the Mines Alumni Classic & Multi, going 37-7.25 (11.46m) in her final attempt.
Marion Presigny qualified through the prelims of the 60m hurdles with a fourth-place finish out of 38 others and she ended up with that same placement in the finals, turning in a 9.02. She was also in action in the long jump, finishing with a 17-6 (5.33m) in her third attempt.
Part of the Academy of Art squad will remain in New York for the Towson Tiger Invitational at The Armory on Saturday while another group will step onto the track for the University of Washington Indoor Preview in Seattle.
