2019 Hillsdale Wide Track Classic Results (Day 1)
HILLSDALE, Mich. – Urban Knights could be found as the first-place finishers across five different events to start the two-day Hillsdale Wide Track Classic inside Margot V. Biermann Center on Friday.
In the meet's opening event,
Hannah Hensley finished runner-up in the 60m hurdles, high jump, and 800m while also taking fourth in the long jump to ultimately total 3,295 points. In just her first pentathlon of the season, Hensley earned herself NCAA Division II Nationals provisional qualification, starting the season just outside of the nation's top 20.
The individual long jump saw
Rian Young-Werner walk away with the day's best distance, 17-6.75 (5.35m), to lead 31 jumpers. Additionally, Hensley took fifth of that field with a 16-11.25 (5.16m) to better her results in the event in the pentathlon.
Another top result went to
Camille Jouanno in the 60m hurdles prelims where she dropped a season-best 8.88 for first out of 31 competitors. She, along with 18 others will return for the event semifinals tomorrow.
Â
Impressing once again in just her second meet as an Urban Knight,
Ombretta Picciolie Minkue Meye claimed Friday's best mark in the 60m prelims, going 7.63 for first of 61 sprinters and ensuring her spot in tomorrow's semifinal along with
Darria Matthias (7.84),
Allysia Parry (7.92),
Hava Turner (7.92),
Selena Arjona-Alcazar (7.95), Young-Werner (8.06), and
Latavia Hawkins (8.10). Those seven Academy of Art sprinters all finished among the top 18 and two more,
Mia Avila and Jouanno, were less than 0.02 from joining them.
The men's 60m prelims had its share of highlights as well with
Mobolade Ajomale leading a total of 65 sprinters with his 6.78 mark that was 0.07 faster than the next closest finisher. ART U will be represented by not only Ajomale in tomorrow's semifinal, but also
Daquan Berry (7.14),
Arrun Palacio (7.20), and
Grant Swinton (7.21) who all collected spots among the top 16 in the field.
Berry shined in the 200m dash as well, crossing the line first overall out of 64 sprinters. He posted a time of 22.55 to edge a pair from Tiffin.
Closing out the day, the Urban Knights' distance medley relay team of
Victor Moreau, Berry,
Joshua Browne, and
Freddie Hessian combined to produce the second-fastest time at the meet. The quartet went 10:10.84, clocking in behind only Northwood (Mich.).
Academy of Art will be back inside the Margot V. Biermann Center tomorrow with a full slate of events on Day 2 of the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic. Action begins at 10 a.m. ET (7 a.m. PT).
