Track & Field's Outdoor Season Debuts At Kim Duyst Invite

2019 Kim Duyst Invitational Results

TURLOCK, Calif. – Starting its outdoor season at the Kim Duyst Invitational, Academy of Art track & field had several high finishes and even set a new program record with Daniel Cortes Gonzalez in the high jump on Saturday afternoon at Al Brenda Track.

Less than one week after breaking ART U's indoor high jump record, Cortes Gonzalez was at it again at Stanislaus State. In a field that featured six jumpers from Chico State, the freshman from Cali, Colombia finished second with a clearance of 6-10.25 (2.09m) for the Nationals provisional qualifier as well as the program record by more than five feet. Cortes Gonzalez would later return for his first triple jumps as a collegiate, going 43-3.75 (13.20m) on his second attempt for a sixth place finish out of 20 jumpers.

Both the men's and women's 100m saw pairs of Urban Knights at the front of their respective fields. Allysia Parry (12.21) and Selena Arjona-Alcazar (12.23) took third and fourth out of 35 on the women's side while the men had Ashony Williams (10.98) and Arrun Palacio (11.01) claim seventh and ninth of 49 sprinters.

The 200m was similar as once again Parry and Arjona-Alcazar assumed the third and fourth positions with 24.94 and 24.99 respective marks in a collection of 61 total competitors. The men's finishers swapped from the 100m with Palacio earning third with a 22.08 in the 200m and Williams coming in at 22.35 for sixth of 69 runners.

Up with the leading pack in his 1500m heat, Joshua Browne turned in a time of 4:04.42 to take fifth overall out of 70 distance runners. For the women, it was a trio of Ashley Brown (4:57.53), Audrey Rosencrans (4:58.05), and Jasmine Becker (4:58.93) who all finished within less than two seconds of one another, going ninth, 10th, and 11th respectively out of 57 in total.

Up next for the Urban Knights is their seventh NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships appearance on Mar. 8-9 in Pittsburg, Kan. to conclude that season while the rest of the team looks ahead to a split second outdoor weekend with Sacramento State's Hornet Invitational and Troy's Doc Anderson Invitational both Mar. 15-16.
