IRVINE, Calif. – Already building off an impressive indoor campaign, Academy of Art track & field had three Urban Knights selected for Pacific West Conference Athletes of the Week in a Wednesday release. A retrospective announcement of
Daniel Cortes Gonzalez as PacWest Men's Field Athlete of the Week from Mar. 4 was combined with Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors for
Mobolade Ajomale and a Women's Field Athlete of the Week honor for
Camille Jouanno after this past weekend's results. The award for Cortes Gonzalez was based on competition from Feb. 25 - Mar. 3 while the awards for Ajomale and Jouanno were based on competition from Mar. 11-17.
At the Kim Duyst Invitational on
Mar. 2 in a field that featured six jumpers from Chico State, Cortes Gonzalez finished second with a clearance of 6-10.25 (2.09m) for the Nationals provisional qualifier as well as the program record by more than five feet. He would later return for his first triple jumps as a collegiate, going 43-3.75 (13.20m) on his second attempt for a sixth place finish out of 20 jumpers. In the high jump, Cortes Gonzalez currently ranks No. 4 in NCAA Division II.
In his first action since Indoor Nationals, Ajomale assumed the top spot in NCAA Division II with Outdoor Nationals provisional qualifiers in both the 100m and 200m at the Hornet Invitational on Mar. 15-16. He first delivered a 20.81 to move into No. 1 in the 200m by 0.38 on
Mar. 15 then added a 10.36 for the fastest 100m time DII has seen thus far by 0.06 on
Mar. 16. The Richmond Hill, Canada native would also contribute to a 4x100m time (41.62) that slots in at 13th in the country to date.
Coming off earning the Indoor triple jump national championship, Jouanno wasted no time in taking over the top position in the triple jump after her second attempt saw her reach a distance of 40-7.75 (12.39m) at the Hornet Invitational on
Mar. 16. The mark was not only fourth all-time at Academy of Art, but also the top DII distance by five full inches and an Outdoor Nationals provisional. The Bordeaux, France native also added a long jump of 18-8.875 (5.71m) in her final attempt to slot into fifth in the country.
This is Ajomale's sixth career PacWest weekly honor and it is the first for both Cortes Gonzalez and Jouanno in their respective careers.
