2019 Pepsi Florida Relays Results (Final)
2019 Mike Fanelli Track Classic Results (Final)
In a Saturday conclusion to both the Pepsi Florida Relays and Mike Fanelli Track Classic, Academy of Art track & field continued to deliver nationally significant marks as well as multiple new program records.
"The effort at both meets this weekend was great," said director of track & field/cross country
Kevin LaSure. "There were a lot of impressive early season marks as well as several personal bests."
GAINSVILLE, Fla. – Staying true to the meet's name, ART U ran four relays and posted four times that were either the fastest in program history or fastest in 2019 at the Pepsi Florida Relays.
Making up the men's 4x100m,
Grant Swinton,
Mobolade Ajomale,
Christian Carter, and
Daquan Berry rose to second in NCAA Division II with a 40.65 Nationals provisional. The mark would beat out DI teams such as Iowa and Indiana.
Members of that quartet were also involved in a 4x200m program record that saw the clock read 1:25.08. Swinton, Carter,
Ashony Williams, and Ajomale combined for a time that bested last year's record by more than two seconds.
The women had their own highlight in the 4x100m with
Selena Arjona-Alcazar,
Ombretta Picciolie Minkue Meye,
Hava Turner, and
Darria Matthias moving up among Nationals provisional qualifiers with their 46.64 which edged a foursome from Grand Valley State (46.67) as well as more than 20 other teams.
Similarly to the men, some of those same sprinters also displayed their talents in the program's first 4x200m relay.
Mia Avila, Matthias,
Allysia Parry, and Minkue Meye crossed the finish line at 1:38.21.
The relays were not the only events where the Urban Knights excelled on Saturday.
Camille Jouanno's second triple jump attempt had her soar to 40-11.25 (12.48m), while moving her nearly three inches closer to the NCAA Division II leader.
HAYWARD, Calif. – The third and final day of the Mike Fanelli Track Classic had its share of relay highlights in addition to mid-distance successes from the Urban Knights.
Both gender's 800m had upper tier finishes by
Hasna Kaarour and
Victor Moreau. Kaarour put up the fourth-fastest time in program history at 2:15.32, taking 36th of 105 total competitors while Moreau, at 1:53.38, was less than 0.2 off of the top five marks in ART U history.
Putting herself into the record books in yet another event,
Giulia McIsaac claimed 15th of 36 in the mile, clocking a time of 5:23.13 good for third-fastest ever by an Urban Knight.
Closing out the day, the men's distance medley relay featured a program record 10:31.92 from
Hudson Lockette,
Arrun Palacio,
Charlie Messai, and Markus Anderson-Deakin, putting them fourth of 17 teams in the event.
The first women's outdoor distance medley relay saw
Alyssa Winter,
Ashley Brown,
Jasmine Becker, and
Audrey Rosencrans take third of 17 teams with a 12:37.47 collective mark.
Following two weeks off from competition, Academy of Art will return to Hayward to enter the Cal State East Bay Invitational on Apr. 13.
