Ajomale, Palacio Are PacWest Track & Field Athletes of Week

PacWest Conference Track & Field Weekly Awards (Apr. 18)

IRVINE, Calif. – For the third occasion this season, Academy of Art track & field had representation in Thursday's release of Pacific West Conference Athletes of the Week. For their season-bests at the Cal State East Bay Invitational on Apr. 13, Mobolade Ajomale and Arrun Palacio were named PacWest Men's Track Athlete and Field Athlete of the Week. The awards were based on competition from Apr. 8-14.

Ajomale's first 400m of the season saw him not only place first of 27 on the day, but his time of 47.22 was a mere 0.03 off his lifetime-best and put him ninth in NCAA Division II with a Nationals provisional qualifier. Also a contributor to the first-place men's 4x100m relay, Ajomale and the Urban Knights ended just 0.01 shy of the Nationals provisional standard at 41.10.

A busy man on Saturday, Palacio competed in four sprint events, but it was his two horizontal jumps that saw breakout performances. He claimed first of 19 in the long jump with a new lifetime-best 22-7.25 (6.89m) and followed that with the farthest distance of nine (46-2.5/14.08m) in the triple jump for a season-best there.

This is Ajomale's seventh career PacWest weekly honor and his second of the season. Palacio earns the first PacWest weekly selection of his career.
