NCAA Division II Super Regionals Final Results
AMARILLO, Texas -- Academy of Art women's golf concluded their sixth NCAA Division II Super Regionals appearance with their highest finish ever, placing fifth of the top 12 teams in the West and South Central regions and just outside the cutoff to advance to the NCAA National Championship. However, sophomore
Anahi Servin punched her ticket to nationals by finishing as the highest placed individual not on a team advancing to the finals, tied for fifth with her cumulative 7-over-par 220. Her fifth place finish is second best of any ART U golfer to compete at the Super Regionals.
"Well I thought the team handled a very difficult course very well," said head coach
Mitch Lowe. "We had our best day of the tournament in the final round which I was very proud of. This is such a great team to be around, not just as athletes but as people. I'm very lucky to be coaching them. This team will continue to get better and we look forward to an even stronger year next fall."
Servin shot her best round of the tournament on the final day, finishing 1-over-par 72 including an eagle on the par-5 18th. She was one of only three players to shoot an eagle and her 3-under-par on par-5 holes was third best in the field. Sophomore
Iveta Posledni came in behind Servin, tied for 14th after shooting 5-over-par 75 for a cumulative score of 223. Freshman
Nattavadee "Baipor" Khunsri had the lowest ART U round three by firing off an even 71 to place tied for 23rd. Junior
Elan Hawkins improved four strokes for a 4-over-par 75 to secure the final scoring spot for ART U and end tied for 32nd.
As a team, the best season in Academy of Art women's golf history comes to a close, but Servin's will continue. She will become the third golfer in ART U history to move on to the NCAA D2 National Championship. The tournament will take place in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. at the PGA National Resort on May 15-18 when Servin will compete for her first national title.
"I'm sure Anahi's expectations are very high going into Nationals," said Lowe. "She has the game to compete with anyone and hopefully the scores will show it next week."
