True North Classic Final Results

RICHMOND, British Columbia – ART U jumped two spots in the standings for a third place finish after the final round of the True North Classic with a second round score of 310, four strokes better than day one.

Sophomore Chih-Hui "Judy" Shao maintained her spot as the top ART U golfer by shooting 6-over par 78 for a total of 152 strokes and a career-high seventh place finish.

"Very proud of Judy's finish," said head coach Mitch Lowe. "She got off to a rough start but played good golf this week and we look forward to that continuing throughout the year."

Senior Elan Hawkins improved two strokes for a 5-over-par 77 resulting in a seven spot jump and a 12th place finish. The best ART U round of the day was shot by junior Iveta Posledni, who fired a 3-over-par 75 for a 16 spot leap and a 13th place finish. Posledni led ART U in birdies as well, with four in the second round alone and five total. Senior Han-Chuan "Vicky" Kuo ended tied for 17th after a 8-over-par 80 in round two. 

"Elan and Iveta still didn't play their best and not quite up to where they want to be," said Lowe. "But they fought crazy hard throughout the round and both finished the day strong."

Host Simon Fraser ran away with the team title, firing a 300 in round two for a total score of 595, 25 strokes less than second place Western Washington (620).

After a third place finish at the True North Classic, Academy of Art will have a month off until they tee off at the Sonoma State Fall Invitational on Monday, Oct. 14 at the Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club.

"We have a few weeks off before the next event and we definitely have things we need to work on as a team," said Lowe. "Just a continuation of getting better throughout the year. The team is in good spirits and motivated so we look forward to the remainder of the fall season and it will be great to be able to compete with five players."
