USTFCCCA National Athletes of the Week (Apr. 20)

James YoungNEW ORLEANS -- One day after being named Pacific West Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week, James Young garnered even grander recognition when his historic 1500m performance led him to become NCAA Division II National Athlete of the Week as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Tuesday.

In just his second outdoor race since becoming the NCAA DII national champion in the indoor mile, Young's first 1500m was one for the record books. At the Bryan Clay Invitational, he cruised to a time of 3:37.72 which, in addition to dropping well below the Outdoor Nationals automatic standard, was second only to Western Oregon's David Ribich for the fastest time in NCAA DII history. Currently the top time in DII and fourth in all divisions this season, Young's mark was the new ART U record by more than six seconds.

This is the first USTFCCCA DII National Athlete of the Week honor for Young in his career and the seventh time in for an Urban Knight in the history of the Academy of Art men's track & field program.
