PacWest Weekly Awards (Mar. 7)

IRVINE, Calif. – Contributing to the fourth consecutive win for Academy of Art women's tennis and the Urban Knights' third sweep of the season, sophomore Sofia Ragona was named Pacific West Conference Player of the Week. The award is for matches played from Feb. 28 - Mar. 6.

After the Urban Knights collected the doubles point in the Mar. 5 rematch with Dominican, Ragona, ranked 18th in the nation in singles, went the distance with Audrey Rafols in the opening set on the first singles court. A 9-7 tie-breaker victory gave the gave the Turin, Italy native momentum to finish off the 7-6 (9-7), 6-3 win in straight sets.

On the season, Ragona is 5-1 in ART U's top singles position and 3-1 with sophomore Yun "Nicole" Shiau as the first doubles team.

This is the first PacWest weekly honor for Academy of Art this season and the second for Ragona in her career.
