2022 Mt. SAC Relays Results (Day 2)
2022 Bryan Clay Invitational Results
Some of the best marks of several Academy of Art track & field seasons and careers were seen Friday as the Urban Knights continued the Mt. SAC Relays and wrapped up the Bryan Clay Invitational.
WALNUT, Calif. – From the jumps tandem of
Mathieu Tshani and
Yacouba Gnacko to sprinters such as
Ombretta Picciolie Minkue Meye and
Duncan Agyemang to distance specialists like
Natalia Novak, ART U was in prime form toward NCAA Division II Outdoor Nationals qualifications as part of the Mt. SAC Relays at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
Two weeks removed from his triple jump performance that broke the program record, Tshani significantly exceeded that mark in his final attempt, going 52-10 (16.10m). Though supported by a +2.6 m/s wind, it still furthered the ART U record and put him second only to Pitt State's Henry Kiner top NCAA DII mark in the country that came at the start of the competition. A wind-legal first jump of 51-9 (15.77m) elevated Gnacko to third both in the nation this year and in program history.
Minkue Meye blazed to a new outdoor personal record of 55.38 in the 400m on Friday. Serving as the lone NCAA DII competitor in the event, Minkue Meye joined the country's top 15 with the Outdoor Nationals provisional mark in addition to tying for third on Academy of Art's all-time list.
Â
Just 0.09 seconds from cracking the program's top five in the 400m, Agyemang ran his best time of the season at 47.66. He went more than a full second faster than his previous best and put himself into the top 20 in NCAA DII as an Outdoor Nationals provisional qualifier.
In both hurdles events,
Shareez Hamm turned in two of his best performances of the season. He began by taking nearly 0.10 seconds off his previous season-best with a 14.72 in the 110m hurdles. That was followed by his Outdoor Nationals provisional 52.69 mark which got him inside the country's top 15 in the 400m hurdles.
Out of the 200m dash,
Selena Arjona-Alcazar emerged with the fastest time of her career at 23.76. A positive wind of 2.8 m/s contributed, but the mark that came behind only NCAA DI competitors, rose her a tie for sixth in the nation as well as second in program history. With a 24.69,
Darria Matthias was just off Outdoor Nationals provisional qualification and the pair would be separated by just 0.01 in the 100m with Arjona-Alcazar going 11.90 and Matthias' season-best 11.91 just back.
Arjona-Alcazar would later team with Minkue Meye,
Alice Coisne, and
Alisha Wilson for a top-six time in the 4x400m relay. In an event loaded with NCAA DI talent, the quartet produced a 3:44.60 Outdoor Nationals provisional.
The first 1500m race of the season for
Natalia Novak saw her add her name to the nation's top 20. An Outdoor Nationals provisional mark of 4:30.41 emerged out of a collection of numerous NCAA DI competitors around her in the event.
Coming with a positive 3.5 m/s wind,
Daquan Berry posted the fastest 100m time of his career at 10.60. He maintained his position at fourth in ART U history with his wind-legal personal record (10.62) just behind.
AZUSA, Calif. – At Azusa Pacific's Cougar Stadium until the final hours of the day, a smaller contingent of Urban Knights was in action for the last day of the Bryan Clay Invitational.
One of Friday's events under the lights was the 1500m where
Delanie Dykes took significant time off her first time at the distance at the start of April. She dropped to a 4:28.08 taking her to second in Academy of Art history and well into the nation's top 20 as a provisional qualifier for Outdoor Nationals.Â
Just a day after setting the program record in the 10,000m,
Audrey Rosencrans also bettered her personal record in the 1500m with a time of 4:51.55. The men's 1500m saw
Saba Khvichava take nearly five seconds off his debut time as he posted a 3:55.38 on Friday while
Hudson Lockette followed with his own personal record of 4:01.17.
Competing at both track meets on Friday, Wilson had her own success with a 55.57 personal record in the 400m, placing 17th of 90 as an Outdoor Nationals provisional qualifier. A season-best 58.12 also came from
Erine Collard in the event and she added another at 25.66 in the 200m. On the men's side,
Roshard Williams turned in his own top time of 2022 at 22.46 with a +3.4 m/s wind in the 200m.
With the Bryan Clay Invitational complete, Academy of Art will focus solely on the third and final day of the Mt. SAC Relays tomorrow.
