2022 Birdie Fest (Round 1)
SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Hitting the course for the first time in 2022, Academy of Art women's golf hung tight in a small field of teams during the first round of Birdie Fest hosted by Pacific West Conference member Dominican, as ART U is tied for second place with a score of 23-over-par 307.
In her first tournament as an Urban Knight, freshman
Nicole Yang paced the squad with a 4-over-par 75 as she sits in a tie for fourth place, while hot on her heels is junior
Napat "Plern" Rattanaprakarn just one stroke behind with a 5-over-par 76 install possession of sixth place. Continue in the trend, junior
Tessa Geenen trails behind Rattanaprakarn by only one stroke as well, sitting in a tie for seventh place at 6-over-par 77. Rounding out the scoring for Academy of Art was junior
Valeria Ruiz in a tie for 10th place at 8-over-par 79, while freshman
Maddie Elias sits in 13th at 11-over-par 82.
Tied with the Knights in second place as a team is host school Dominican, as the Penguins turned in an identical cumulative round of 23-over-par 307. Both teams trail Bay Area pod member Holy Names, who currently rests in the pole position at 12-over-par 296. While HNU currently claims first as a team, it is a Penguin atop the individual leaderboard with Claire Shubin out in front of the rest of the field at 2-under-par 69. She enjoys a slight lead over a pair of Hawks that also shot in the red at 1-under-par 70 Lavinia Romito and Regina Parra.
The first tournament of the year concludes with the final round of Birdie Fest tomorrow taking place at Peacock Gap Golf Club.
