Consecutive Clean Sheets Earn King PacWest Weekly Honor

PacWest Weekly Awards (Sept. 19)

Davis KingIRVINE, Calif. –
After helping Academy of Art men's soccer to their first two victories of the 2022 campaign with a pair of clean sheets, senior goalkeeper Davis King has collected an honor from the Pacific West Conference as goalie was tabbed as the PacWest Defender of the Week. The award is for matches played from Sept. 12-18.

Facing a total of 26 shots across the week, 13 faced in each match, King produced a pair of saves in both outings to bring his total to 15 on the season. During the week's first match against Cal Poly Humboldt on Sept. 12, a 2-0 Urban Knights victory, King's pair of second-half stops helped preserve the win despite the Jacks firing 10 shots in the frame.

The scoreless streak continued for the Portland, Ore. native when he denied another couple of second-half opportunities for William Jessup the following time on the pitch on Sept. 15, which allowed ART U to finish off the match with a dominating 3-0 win. Dating back to the 2-2 tie against Cal State East Bay, King has not allowed a goal in the previous 202 minutes of game action (five total saves over that span).

In addition to King's award, Academy of Art was picked as the PacWest's unofficial Team of the Week, the first time that has happened in the campaign. The Urban Knights will look to keep that momentum going into their last non-conference match of the season, a Bay Area battle with the Hawks of Holy Names on Wednesday, Sept. 21.

Not only is this the first Defender of the Week award for King the season, it is the first such honor of his career. He is the fourth Urban Knight all time to be named the PacWest Defender of the Week, and is just the second ART U goalkeeper to do so (Kris Jensson, Oct. 22, 2018).
