2023 Westmont Invitational Results (Day 2)
GOLETA, Calif. -- The Urban Knights finished the final day of the Westmont Invitational Tuesday at the Sandpiper Golf Course with a cumulative score of 615 with their 36-over-par. Academy of Art took third place out of six teams, topping schools such as UH Hilo, Westmont, and Occidental.
"I'm really proud of what the team has achieved this fall," said Head Coach Beth Allen. "I've seen big improvements from everyone and know that we're only going to get better."
Sophomore Maddie Elias improved by four strokes compared to her day one performance, shooting the second-best round in the field with a 73 to end at a 6-over-par 150 cumulative score and collect her third place finish. Sophomore Nicole Yang ended her tournament with a 10-over-par 154, senior Tessa Geenan with an 11-over-par 155, and freshman Chantel Tsai with a 12-over-par 156, all ranking among the top 15 for contributing scores towards the team's total.
"Maddie has been playing really well and clearly worked very hard this summer on her driver," Allen said. "This has resulted in two great finishes this fall including third place as an individual this week. Maddie and everyone else have a lot of potential to become really consistent and strong competitors. We'll be working hard the remainder of the fall to maintain the progress. If we keep this up, I believe we have a legitimate chance at winning at the PacWest Tournament. I'm really excited to see the progress from this team as I'm extremely proud and they should be too."
Point Loma would take first place at the tournament with their team score of 28-over-par 607 with Cal State Monterey Bay securing second just one stroke ahead of ART U. Madi Blanc would be the individual champion as she shot a 2-over-par 146, shooting a 73 in both rounds.
Having concluded its fall competition, ART U will now prepare for its spring season. Stay tuned to www.ARTUAthletics.com for updates.
