Academy of Art Finishes DBU Invitational 11th Overall

2023 DBU Invitational (Final Results)

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. –
Battling extreme conditions on a cold and rainy day in Pebble Beach, Calif. where win was blowing nearly 30 miles per hour with gusts over 40, Academy of Art women's golf was able to finish their final round of the 2023 DBU Invitational at Poppy Hills Golf Club, closing the day where they began in 11th place with a final combined score of 113-over-par 965. 

On a day where all team scores combined for more than 30-over-par, posting the best individual final round score by an Urban Knight was freshman Nicole Yang as she finished the action by carding a 5-over-par 75. She was steady on the front nine, recording six straight pars before dropping a birdie on the ninth hole to make the turn at just 1-over, which ultimately helped her finish in a tie for 25th place with an overall score of 18-over-par 231. 

The next best ART U finished belonged to junior Napat "Plern" Rattanaprakarn, as she tied for 47th with an overall 28-over-par 241 after her final round of 8-over-par 79. Over the course of her third round, she overcame a tough front nine by dropping a birdie on the 10th hole and finishing the back nine at just 2-over. Rounding out the scoring for the Knights was junior Tessa Geenen in a tie for 57th place at 33-over-par 246, while junior Valeria Ruiz took 68th place with a 39-over-par 252. 

Rising two spots in the final round to claim victory by three strokes was Dartmouth College with a final combined score of 34-over-par 886, just narrowly edging out host DBU (27-over-par 889). Opening and closing the day in fifth was the top Pacific West Conference team Point Loma thanks to their 61-over-par 913, which was boosted by the tournament's individual champion in Alli Kim after she went just 1-over-par 72 in the final round to end the tournament at even-par 213. 

Academy of Art will be back in action in just a week, as the Urban Knights head to Temecula, Calif. where they will participate in the San Marcos Shootout hosted at Temecula Creek Inn beginning on March 27.
