2023 Bryan Clay Invitational Results (Day 2)
2023 Mt. SAC Relays Results (Day 1)
Academy of Art track & field saw new women's 10,000m and men's 4x100m relay records achieved in a Friday that combined numerous stellar performances at the Bryan Clay Invitational and Mt. SAC Relays.
AZUSA, Calif. – Three Outdoor Nationals provisional qualifying times came on the second day of the Bryan Clay Invitational inside Cougar Stadium with
Lisa Redlinger impressing right out of the gate.
The morning began in record-breaking fashion as Redlinger delivered a 35:06.72 mark in the 10,000m, betting her previous best from two weeks ago by more than 30 seconds. In addition to placing fourth of 50 competitors overall, Redlinger's new ART U record put her among the nation's top 10.
In the women's 800m Invite,
Lina Hanich posted a new outdoor best for the third time this season at 2:10.52. The performance moved her up to fourth in program history as well as top 10 in the country.
The open version of the 800m saw
Grace Southern continue to drop her time in the event this season, going 2:11.08 to settle inside the top 15 in NCAA Division II.
WALNUT, Calif. – In addition to the men's 4x100m relay record, many Urban Knights posted some of their best marks of 2023 and numerous Outdoor Nationals provisionals at the 63rd Annual Mt. SAC Relays inside Hilmer Lodge Stadium on Friday.
The quartet of
Ajani Ince,
Robin Black,
Emmanuel Ajiroba, and
Duncan Agyemang were on absolute fire in the 4x100m relay Friday as they combined to break an Academy of Art record that had stood since 2016. In between NCAA Division I Washington State and Pitt State, the Urban Knights posted a 40.24 mark that was over 0.10 seconds faster than that of
Marlon Britton, Hall of FamerÂ
Mobolade Ajomale,
Alexander McNally, and
Craig Mattox seven years prior nearly to the day. The time got them into the nation's top 10 as Outdoor Nationals provisional qualifiers.
Individual success also came from Black in the 400m hurdles where he took over a half second off of his debut time, going 51.96 across the line. The finish, which was second only to Illinois' DeVontae Ford in an event loaded with NCAA DI talent, had him second in ART U history and a top 10 Outdoor Nationals provisional qualifier. In that same event,
Crockett Schooler ended just 0.34 seconds from the standard though his 53.66 mark put him fifth in program history.
Schooler also contested the 110m hurdles and was able to turn in an Outdoor Nationals provisional time there. At 14.43, he elevated to second among Urban Knights before him and into the top 35 in NCAA DII as an Outdoor Nationals provisional qualifier.
After surpassing 50 feet (15.24m) on his third and fifth triple jump attempts,
Yacouba Gnacko saved his best for last as he soared to 51-2.25 (15.60m) on his final try. His best mark of the season by more than an inch, the effort still has him fourth in the country and was second only to Viktor Morozov of Illinois while in front of jumpers from UCLA, Northern Arizona, and USC.
Holding her own in the fastest 200m heat of the day with only NCAA DI talent alongside her,
Selena Arjona-Alcazar finished with a new season best of 23.76. With competitors from Duke, Michigan, and Georgia ahead while those from Cal, Miami, and Stanford trailed her, the Communications & Media Technologies major rose to the nation's top 10 as an Outdoor Nationals provisional qualifier once more.
The fastest 400m time in the career of
Makarios Page came Friday as he came across the finish line at 47.44, bettering others from DI Cal State Fullerton, Arizona, and Idaho just to name a few from the event predominantly made up of NCAA DI runners. Taking over the fifth spot in ART U history, Page bettered his own Outdoor Nationals provisional qualifier coming in by 0.30 seconds to reach the country's top 12.
In keeping with the day's theme,
Alisha Wilson saw only NCAA DI competitors to the right and left of her in the 400m from which she would walk away with a new season best. The dual-sport student-athlete offered a time of 55.75, taking more than a second off her debut mark from two weeks prior and moving up into the top 25 in NCAA DII above the Outdoor Nationals provisional standard.
Closing out ART U's full day of action,
Marie-Jeanne Ourega placed second of more than 40 primarily NCAA DI competitors in the triple jump. Though not a season best, her 41-10 (12.75m) distance on her fourth attempt marked her third time exiting the event as an Outdoor Nationals provisional qualifier and the mark would have been third in NCAA DII.
The Urban Knights will conclude both the Bryan Clay Invitational and Mt. SAC Relays tomorrow.
