2023 Pacific West Conference Championship (Second Round)
LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – Starting day two of the Pacific West Conference Championship from Wigwam Golf Course in a tie for third, Academy of Art women's golf senior
Jae Eun Park posted one of the lowest second-round scores on Tuesday to help catapult her into a share of the lead, sharing a spot of the lead at 8-over-par 152. Meanwhile, ART U as a unit sits in seventh with a combined score of 72-over-par 648.
Day two of the PacWest Championships saw ART U improve upon their opening round score by eight strokes, with the Urban Knights combining to shoot a 32-over-par 320. Key in that score was Park, who used a birdie on the fourth hole to make the turn from the front nine at 3-over, then collected two more on the 11th and 13th holes before finishing the day at 5-over-par 77. Her total of five birdies thus far through the action is enough to tie her for third in the tournament field. Park currently holds a piece of the lead along with Tabetha Kang of Point Loma, who was 8-over-par 80 on the day after shooting an even-par 72 yesterday.
Seeking a top-10 finish from the Urban Knights is freshman
Maddie Elias, who dropped three spots into 13th place at 16-over-par 160 after she turned in a 10-over-par 82 in the second round. Finishing up the ART U scoring is freshman
Nicole Yang and junior
Napat "Plern" Rattanaprakarn, both locked into a share of 31st place at 24-over-par 168. Carding the best second round of that duo was Rattanaprakarn with an 8-over-par 80 while Yang was just a stroke back at 9-over-par 81, and both had initially made the turn from the front nine at just 3-over.
Though they still boast one of the individual leaders of the tournament in Kang, nationally-ranked No. 13 Point Loma fell out of the top team spot as the Sea Lions dropped two spots into a tie for third place along with Dominican at 59-over-par 635. Taking over the lead was Holy Names, as their 22-over-par 310 in the second round helped them take a nine-stroke lead over second place Hawaii Pacific (58-over-par 634) thanks to their overall score of 49-over-par 625.
The 2023 PacWest Championship wraps up tomorrow with the third and final round, with the first group teeing off at 9 a.m. from Wigwam Golf Course.
