2023 Brutus Hamilton Invitational Results
BERKELEY, Calif. – Traveling across the Bay Bridge to compete in the Brutus Hamilton Invitational at Edwards Stadium, Academy of Art track & field turned in multiple highlights on Saturday including NCAA Division II Outdoor Nationals provisional marks from
Robin Black in the 100m and
Lisa Redlinger in the 5000m.
Competing in the day's fastest 100m heat, Black battled opponents from Cal and Dominican before finishing at 10.46 across the line in his first time competing in the event as an Urban Knight. The mark had him third of 32 others on the day and provisionally qualified him for Outdoor Nationals at 21st in the country. Additionally, the debut time put him fifth in program history.
Black would also join
Crockett Schooler in the 110m hurdles where the tandem nearly clocked identical times at the finish line. Schooler had the edge at 14.59, just 0.10 seconds from the Outdoor Nationals provisional standard, while Black turned in a time of 14.61 which started him at fifth in ART U history, once again making his debut for the program in another event.
Redlinger continued to debut in different events for the Urban Knights, notably adding the 5000m to her resume on Saturday. There she would lead a trio from Academy of Art with a second-place finish at 17:05.71, making her a two-time Outdoor Nationals provisional qualifier thus far in 2023. She opened at 22nd in the nation and fourth among all Knights to date.
Grace Southern added a 17:14.90 to take over the fifth spot in ART U history.
Though not her fastest time this season,
Marie-Jeanne Ourega still delivered her third Outdoor Nationals provisional mark in three tries in the 100m hurdles. Only three NCAA Division I competitors would finish ahead of her 14.06 time.
Of the field of 19 in the long jump,
Yacouba Gnacko placed first overall as his best distance of 23-8 (7.21m) came on his second attempt. He remains among the country's top 20 after going 24-2.5 (7.38m) at last week's Stanford Invitational.
The Urban Knights' first trip outside of the Bay Area this outdoor season comes next with three days of action at the Mt. SAC Relays and Bryan Clay Invitational on Apr. 13-15.
