RJGA Shootout At Estrella (Final Results)
GOODYEAR, Ariz. – A lot was learned yesterday for Academy of Art women's golf at the RJGA Shootout At Estrella, as the Urban Knights shot better in Round 2 by eight strokes, improving from a 17-over-par day to one that was 9-over-par. The Knights ended up finishing 10th overall, beating Colorado Christian, MSU Denver, Chico State, and Fort Lewis College.
Sophomore Maddie Elias led the way for ART U as she finished tied for 16th, improving by five strokes in Round 2 and finalizing her tournament with a 3-over-par 147. Elias shot the third best score out of competing Pacific West Conference golfers with four birdies in her second round with a 1-under-par 71, which was the eighth-best score out of all competitors. Sophomore Nicole Yang ranked second among the Urban Knights, shooting a 6-over-par 150 which put her at tied for 29th. Graduate student Jae Eun Park and freshman Chantel Tsai each shot a 9-over-par 153 with senior Tessa Geenen and senior Plern Rattanaprakarn following right behind.
Daniela Andrade of Cal State LA was the individual champion of the tournament, shooting a 4-under-par 140 and leading her team to a third place finish. Cal State East Bay would end up as the team that was victorious overall, cruising to victory with their four-stroke lead over second place Texas A&M International.Â
Next time out for ART U will be the Sonoma State Fall Invitational, held from the Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club in Santa Rosa beginning on Monday, Oct. 2.Â
