Grace Southern registering the best result from any NCAA Division II competitors (sixth overall) for the 10th place women and freshman
Ethan Forbes making it three consecutive meets leading the men to 14th overall at Santa Clara's Bronco Invitational.
Southern contended with runners from NCAA Division I teams such as UC Davis and Cal Poly in the women's 6k open, turning in a time of 22:20.7 good for sixth overall out of 167 total (four points toward team score) while graduate student
Lina Hanich was the second NCAA DII runner to finish at 32nd overall (22 points toward team score) with a time of 23:39.1. Senior
Michaela Andrews served as the third Urban Knight across the line at 24:56.8 in 73rd (46 points toward team score) and the tandem of sophomore
Toni-Ann Lindsay (144th, 80 points toward team score) and senior
Erine Collard (160th, 87 points toward team score) each turned in season bests at 29:23.1 and 32:37.9 respectively.
As a team, the Urban Knights claimed 10th overall ahead of American River (258), Jessup (384), Dominican (392) and others. UC Davis (41) bettered UC Santa Cruz (58) for the top team spot and Rhiannon Walker (21:46.7) of Clovis CC first across the finish line.
Only two NCAA DII runners finished the 8k race ahead of Forbes who placed 62nd overall (32 points toward team score) at 26:24.2. Meanwhile, freshman
Bethwel Kibet contributed 71 points toward his team's score with a 28:20.8 that had him 152nd on the day. A season-best 28:33.1 came from junior
Vaughn Lacour who took 165th (77 points toward team score) with junior
Taj-Leon Wisdom's 33:54.3 (247th, 102 points toward team score) and graduate student
Shareez Hamm's 37:41.2 (261st, 110 points toward team score) in tow.
Collectively, the ART U men's squad placed 14th with 392 points, besting Dominican (427) and Jessup (452) among others. The open competition was won by Cal Poly (41) with Chris Olley (24:28.1) of PDC taking the individual crown.
Concordia, the host of the PacWest Championships, will welcome Academy of Art to Great Park in Irvine for the Oct. 26 start to the postseason.
