2024 Hornet Invitational Results
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – An impressive first outdoor showing for Academy of Art track & field featured plenty of NCAA Division II Outdoor Nationals provisional efforts as new names were added to many of the program's all-time leaders on Saturday at the Hornet Invitational.
In the 100m dash,
Juvonna Cornette not only finished third out of 98 competitors, but her 11.62 tied her for second in program history as well as second in the country as an Outdoor Nationals provisional qualifier. Joining her among the nation's top four,
Lauryn James' 11.74, which came in a heat with four NCAA Division I opponents, put her sixth overall in the field as an Outdoor Nationals provisional.
The duo of Cornette and James would also combine with
Darria Matthias and
Toni-Ann Lindsay to produce the fastest time by a NCAA DII 4x100m relay this season at 45.47, making them Outdoor National provisional qualifiers ahead of fellow Pacific West Conference member Fresno Pacific (45.70) for the top spot. Both Cornette and James ended the day with Lindsay and
Lina Hanich in the second spot in the country in the 4x400m relay with an Outdoor Nationals provisional qualification of 3:45.75.
Working together to deliver the second-fastest mark in Academy of Art history in the 4x400m relay on the men's side, the quartet of
Shareez Hamm,
Omodiaogbe Oboh,
Ajani Ince, and
Josh Marlin went 3:09.76 across the finish line. ART U was firmly placed in the number one spot in the nation, more than four seconds under the Outdoor Nationals provisional standard, and second only to the
program record of 3:05.20 set last April.
Individually in the 400m hurdles, both Hamm and Marlin emerged as the top two in the country with opening marks of 51.65 and 51.91 respectively. Marlin debuted at fourth in ART U history with the effort.
First in NCAA DII in the high jump,
Naomie Lavril cleared a bar at 5-7.75 (1.72m) on her final attempt after leaving the rest of the competition behind including two from NCAA DI UC Davis, one from Cal, and another from Chico State. Lavril's first outdoor meet as an Urban Knight had her already second only to
Hannah Hensley's 5-10 (1.78m) record in Academy of Art history.
The men's high jump also saw a new addition to his all-time top five as
Jason Bayindoula began in the fourth position with a clearance of 6-3.25 (1.91m) that had him tie for fourth of 20 in the competition.
Next time out, the Urban Knights will make their respective first appearances at Cal State San Marcos' Mangrum Invitational (Mar. 22) and Point Loma's PLNU Track & Field Invitational (Mar. 23) in Southern California.
