2024 Mangrum Invitational Results
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Many Urban Knights took steps forward on Friday, improving their outdoor marks at Cal State San Marcos' Mangrum Invitational as
Ajani Ince ran the second-fastest 200m dash in Academy of Art track & field history, a trio of ART U women's sprinters dominated three events, and more NCAA Division II Outdoor Nationals provisional qualifications came from
Josh Marlin,
Lina Hanich, and
Katharina Goetschl in varying events.
Finishing first in both individual races in which he competed, Ince moved into the top spot in the country with a 20.77 in the 200m dash. He was first of 67 competitors on the day in the event, putting himself second among all Urban Knights to date and back only of ART U Hall of Famer
Mobolade Ajomale. Emerging in the top spot among a field of 66 in the 100m dash, Ince went 10.53 to narrowly miss the Outdoor Nationals provisional cutoff (10.50).
Lauryn James,
Juvonna Cornette, and
Toni-Ann Lindsay finished in different combinations among the top four in both the 100m and 200m dashes as James took second of 69 sprinters overall in the 200m with a new season best of 23.52. That mark, which was third in Academy of Art history and second in the country this year, was better than Outdoor Nationals provisional standard along with Cornette's 23.69 (fourth in ART U history), and Lindsay's 24.16.
The positions changed in the 100m dash where Cornette claimed the top spot out of 57, going 11.81 for a new meet record while Lindsay (11.87) and James (11.90) were not far behind. That same trio plus
Darria Matthias would exchange the baton in the top-finishing 4x100m relay at 45.96 for not only first out of 14 teams on the day, but fourth in NCAA DII as Outdoor Nationals Provisional qualifiers.
Running faster than his outdoor debut time in the 400m hurdles, Marlin elevated himself to third in the country as well as third in Academy of Art history with a time of 51.35. As an Outdoor Nationals provisional qualifier once again, Marlin was joined by Hamm inside the event's top four on Friday following the latter's 51.77 effort.
The first outdoor 800m race for Hanich came with the day's top finish as she led 47 other competitors with a 2:10.43 that was good for a meet record, Outdoor Nationals provisional qualification, and third in NCAA DII this season.
Only two runners were faster than Goetschl in the 1500m on Friday as her 4:30.00 mark rose the Industrial Design major to third among Outdoor Nationals provisional qualifiers across the country and fourth among Urban Knights to date.
Elijah Roberts cleared his tallest high jump bar as a collegiate on Friday, surpassing 6-6.25 (1.99m) to continue to hold the second spot in ART U history.
There were first-place finishes and meet records for both
Omodiaogbe Oboh at 47.84 in a 400m field that included 50 others as well as
Yacouba Gnacko with a 23-3.5 (7.10m) in the long jump against 22 other competitors.
Remaining in Southern California for its second meet in as many days, ART U next faces some of the competition it will meet in the Pacific West Conference Championships at the PLNU Track & Field Invitational on Saturday in San Diego.
