2024 Bryan Clay Invitational Results
The Urban Knights of Academy of Art track & field were busy delivering new bests at the Cal State LA Twilight Open while one other started the Bryan Clay Invitational with yet another ART U record on Thursday.
LOS ANGELES – Among the many events contested at the Cal State LA Twilight Open inside Jesse Owens Stadium were the fourth-fastest men's 4x100m relay in Academy of Art history as well as two sub-11.60 marks in the women's 100m dash.
Combining to deliver a 40.01Â time, the quartet
Nathaniel Mark,
Ajani Ince,
Shareez Hamm, and
Emmanuel Ajiroba surpassed last year's contingent of Ajiroba,
Robin Black, Ince, and
Duncan Agyemang for fourth in ART U history while taking over the top position in the country this season, provisionally qualifying the quartet for Outdoor Nationals.
In the latter part of the night's action, Hamm and Ince would return with
Omodiaogbe Oboh and
Josh Marlin to drop the quartet's second-fastest 4x400m relay of the year, going 3:11.62 for another top-15 Outdoor Nationals provisional qualification.
Just two lanes apart in their 100m heat with two other teammates also alongside,
Lauryn James and
Juvonna Cornette each turned in the best wind-legal times of their respective careers on Thursday. Both Outdoor Nationals provisional qualifiers, James claimed second of 40 overall at 11.56 to put herself 12th in the country (still third in ART U history) while Cornette was narrowly behind at 11.57.
Finishing first among collegiate competitors and second of 25 overall, Ince ended just 0.01 seconds from his personal record. He went 11.39 across the line for his fastest wind-legal 100m race to date.
The men's high jump saw
Jason Bayindoula achieve a new season-best as he cleared a bar at 6-5.5 (1.97m) to move up to third in program history.
AZUSA, Calif. – Competing under the lights at Cougar Stadium in the Bryan Clay Invitational, ART U's
Katharina Goetschl further lowered the Urban Knights' 3000m steeplechase record.
Goetschl continued her record-breaking run in the event this season, bettering the mark she had previously broken twice in two tries before Thursday. At 10:21.42 against a predominantly NCAA Division I field, the Industrial Design major took more than four seconds off her last time while remaining fourth in NCAA DII.
Day two of the Bryan Clay Invitational follows for ART U tomorrow along with the start of the Beach Invitational.
