RJGA Shootout at Estrella (Final Day)

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Academy of Art saw themselves come away with eight birdies as a group on the final day of action at the RJGA Shootout at Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz. on Tuesday, and emerged from the tournament tied for a ninth place finish out of the 16 entered squads.

The Urban Knights finished the first day in a tie for first with three other teams as they all shot a 308 apiece, and on day two the majority of the field seemed to figure out the course. Freshman Isabella Christy finished with the best score among the Knights in both rounds, as she ended tied for third place in her first career collegiate tournament out of a 86 competitor group with her 3-over-par 147. 

Next up on ART U was sophomore Chantel Tsai, who returns to the action with the Knights for her second year after being named PacWest Freshman of the Year. In her first showing of the season, Tsai tied for 19th place as she put up an 9-over-par 153 over the course of the tournament. Tsai, who competed at the same course just a year ago, matched her score from her freshman campaign.

Three more Knights fought hard for ART U in the tournament, as freshman Meri Illamola finished tied for 38th place with a 14-over-par 158, freshman Jannel Calixterio recorded a 20-over-par 164, and junior Nicole Yang rounded out the squad with a 23-over-par 167.

ART U competes again soon as the Knights will participate in the Urban Knight Invitational in Alameda, Calif. with a start date set for Monday, Sept. 30.
