Men's Golf Improves Two Spots on Final Day, Finishes 12th

The Academy of Art men's golf team got off to a slow start and couldn't make up ground as they finished 12th out of the 15 team field at the Western Washington Invitational.

ART U shot a combined team score of 897 for the tournament, just six strokes behind 11th place UC San Diego. The Urban Knights carded a 301 in the first round, which was paired with their lowest round score of 297 in the second round of play. The Urban Knights closed out the tournament with a 299 final round.

Matt Garcia had the highest finish for the Urban Knights with a 216, which placed him in a tie for 13th place. Erik Majzner was just four strokes behind him, carding a 220, and shooting an even par 72 in the final round.

Stuart Favretto finished in a three way tie for 58th, while shooting a 228. While Carlos Nones came in tied for 69th place and carding a 233. Tom Krepp rounded out the pack with a 259, and an 80th place finish.

With just two stokes separating the top four teams it was Chico State who overtook Western Washington to finish in first, shooting a combined 865. Host Western Washington and CSU Monterey Bay finished tied for second place, just one stroke behind the Wildcats. While Sonoma State finished one stroke behind them, 867, in fourth place.

The Urban Knights next travel to Arizona to take part in the Grand Canyon Invitational Oct 4-5.
