ART U Moves Up Again On Final Day In Santa Rosa

Final Scores

Santa Rosa, CA --
The Urban Knights men's golf team ended the Sonoma State Men's Invite as one of the most tightly grouped together teams of the tournament, showing the kind of consistency that bodes well for the upcoming spring season and putting together a solid final round. ART U moved up one spot for each round played, ending the tournament tied for ninth place overall. Alberto "Dago" Esponda was the highest finished for the Knights, shooting an even 72 in the final round to finish tied for 42nd.

Esponda led the Knights on the day by shooting his lowest score, gradually stepping his score down every round. Sean Etow was two spots behind him, keeping his score low as well with a 74 on the day. Jordan Smith dropped back a little bit by shooting 80, falling to a tie for 49th place, while his brother Mason Smith matched his second round score of 77 to finish tied for 58th, where Cody Moore also finished after shooting 78 on the day to finish with a 230 on the tournament.

The Knights finished the first round in 11th place, finished the second round tied for 10th, and ended tied for ninth place, ahead of PacWest rivals BYU-Hawai'i, Dominican, and Notre Dame de Namur. UH Hilo came out of nowhere to take first place, with a round of 278, led by Jamie Hall who finished first overall. Sonoma State finished second overall, with the leader of the first two rounds Matt Medeiros ending up tied for second. UC San Diego, Cal State East Bay, and California Baptist rounded out the top five in teams. Corey Kazuma (UH Hilo) came in third overall, and three players tied for fourth place.

The Invite concludes the fall season for the Urban Knights, who are growing as a team and gained invaluable experience against quality PacWest and non-conference opponents.
