Knights Complete East-West Invite In 10th

East-West Bay Area Invite (Final Results)

LIVERMORE, Calif. – Back for the final day of its second annual East-West Bay Area Invitational at The Course at Wente Vineyards on Tuesday, Academy of Art University men's golf finished 10th overall.

"I thought the tournament went really well," said head coach Andy Moren. "We had a lot of positive remarks from players and coaches. I am glad we were able to give the players a great experience. I feel like the level of competition is only getting deeper and better and I hope this event will continue to grow."

15549Following a 30-minute frost delay, slick course conditions were not an issue on what turned out to be another beautiful day for golf. Junior Oskar Frick dropped his score for the third consecutive round after nailing a birdie three holes in and paring 13 times thereafter for a 74, a three-round score of 234 (81-79-74), and a tie for 30th overall.

Sophomore Lawrence Liang put up his best round of the tournament on Tuesday as well, shooting a 77 with a pair of late birdies for a combined 239 (78-84-77) and a tie for 39th. After leading ART U through the first two rounds, senior Daniel Cosgrove ended up third on the team and tied for 48th following his two-day score of 244 (73-85-86). Junior Eamonn Coughlin wrapped up his third tournament of the spring in 51st with a total of 248 (85-79-84).

"We had some positives to take away from our team, but overall we need to be a more consistent team and play all three rounds the way we are capable of," said Moren.

After shooting a 66 on the final day, Cal State East Bay's Adam Stone ended as the tournament winner with a three-day score of 209. Stone was supported by Owen Hutchinson in third overall as the Pioneers also captured this year's team title by eight strokes.

"I am very thankful for Wente and their staff for doing their part to make this the best event of the year," said Moren. "They are great to work with and I look forward to having the event there again next year."

Now three tournaments into the spring portion of their 2016-17 season, the Urban Knights return to Livermore for the Notre Dame de Namur Invitational on Mar. 13-14 at Poppy Ridge Golf Course.
