Sonoma State Fall Invitational Final Results

SANTA ROSA, Calif. – Academy of Art men's golf closed out the third and final round of the Sonoma State Fall Invitational on Tuesday. The Urban Knights posted their best score of the tournament, finishing in 11th-place overall.

After posting back-to-back rounds of 78 on Monday, freshman
Matthew Watkins improved an impressive eight strokes to score a 70 (-2) in the final round. The Novato, Calif. native's score was not only the lowest out of all individuals in the third round, but it was tied for the best score out of the entire tournament. Watkins' performance vaulted him from 20th-place on Monday, all the way to a two-way tie for fifth overall.

"I was really impressed with Matt this week in the first tournament of his college career," said head coach
Andy Moren. "He looked like he had been leading us for four years. His effort this week are something our team can build around and I am looking forward to his future performances."Â

With a cumulative score of 232, sophomore
Gabriel De Leon Manotoc finished just four strokes behind Watkins, tying for 13th and closing out the ART U scorers in the top 15.

"It was also nice to see Gabe have a solid tournament on a hard course against a tough field," said Moren. "We are proud of him."

Junior
Lawrence Liang remained consistent with his first three rounds of play, posting an 85 in all three rounds to tie for 60th-place while senior
Eamonn Coughlin finished 65th with 258 overall strokes.

Academy of Art will now return home to prepare for their next tournament, the Concordia Invitational in Portland, Ore. on October 9.
