2019 Grand Valley State University Big Meet Saturday Results
ALLENDALE, Mich. – Academy of Art track & field returned to the Kelly Family Sports Center Saturday to wrap up the Grand Valley State University Big Meet and the Urban Knights did so with moves up the program's all-time best lists as well as NCAA Division II Nationals provisional lists.
Ombretta Picciolie Minkue Meye was as strong as she has been in the 200m, claiming second of 86 sprinters overall in the event with a Nationals provisional qualifying time of 24.79. The new season-best puts her just outside the top 20 marks in the country thus far. In a bit of déjà vu from the
previous day's 200m,
Darria Matthias was able to improve on her season-best with a time of 25.28 while
Hava Turner produced her best collegiate mark at 25.79.
In a 72-competitor women's 60m prelims, Minkue Meye finished first overall, marking a 7.69 time which she would better with an event-leading 7.62 in the final. Similarly to the 200m, Matthias also qualified through, taking sixth in the prelims (7.85) before going 7.74 for fourth in the final.
"We had a lot of quality performances and effort this weekend," said director of track & field/cross country
Kevin LaSure. "Ombretta had a really consistent weekend and is starting to breakthrough and show her true potential."
The men's 200m saw
Roshard Williams finish second of 48 competitors with a time of 22.21 while
Christian Carter topped his previous season-best at 22.34, earning him a fourth-place result. Carter added a season-best in the 400m as well, going 48.53 for first overall out of 55 runners.
"Roshard had a really good weekend both individually and in the 4x400, running an indoor personal best in the 200m," said LaSure. "Christian ran a few strong 400m races this weekend and ran his second-fastest Indoor 400m of his career."
Victor Moreau was able to move his way up to third on the Academy of Art all-time record list with his performance in the 800m. In just the second indoor 800m of his Urban Knight career Moreau delivered a 1:54.15 while taking 11th out of 82. Competing with him alongside him for the second consecutive day,
Freddie Hessian went 18th overall and marked a time of 1:56.29.
Another career performance came in the women's 800m with
Hasna Kaarour finishing eighth of 73 runners with a time of 2:16.47. The mark ties for second on the ART U all-time record list and set a new season-best for her.
The women's long jump had
Camille Jouanno take third of 45 jumpers after her first attempt sent her to a 18-2.25 (5.54m). She remains among the nation's top 10 with her season-best of 18-11.75 (5.78m).
Following up her lifetime-best in the 400m on Friday,
Latavia Hawkins brought home fifth of 73 total competitors with a time of 57.55.
In its final meet of the regular season, Academy of Art will make its annual trip to Massachusetts for the Boston University Last Chance Meet on Sunday, Feb. 24.
